Graves Island

When forensic anthropologist, Marigold Merry, discovers 70-year-old human remains buried in the sand under the Graves Island Pier, she realizes her great-grandparents, who’d once owned the island, might not have been who she’d thought they were.  Although they’d owned a dairy farm, supplying all of the village of Chester with milk, butter and cream, Marigold discovers they’d also run a home for unwed mothers from the island. And employed a suspicious Dutch doctor in 1945 to assist them.

But what did they really do? Why had their only son—Saint Clair Graves—who trained to become a doctor mysteriously disappear? What did her grandmother, Jasmine, know about all of this? And why had the Graves family built a 50-metre pier on the back end of the island?

Although the police investigate, and more bodies are discovered, the case has long grown cold. It would seem there are no clues to be had. Except, Marigold has discovered from examining the remains, every single person had been murdered. And in a very specific way.

So Marigold engages Padraig Cassidy and his firm, Cassidy Baker International—to help solve the murders. Who was the mysterious Dutch doctor who lived in her great-grandparents dairy farm and worked at their a home for unwed mothers? Who were the women? Where did the babies go? Were they sold? Or was their fate much more sinister?
