About the Author
Marci Lin Melvin is a retired Family Court Judge. Prior to her appointment, she spent twenty-five years practicing family and criminal law.
She is a novelist and playwright from Lunenburg County, Nova Scotia, and has written since she was a young child.
Some of her early poetry was published when she was ten years old, she wrote her first play at age eleven, which was showcased as her school’s Christmas pageant that year and wrote her first novel when she was thirteen. She went to university after grade eleven where she completed a four-year honours degree in three years, graduated with a law degree three years later, and had been admitted to the bar and formed a small theatre troupe—producing plays she had written and directed—by the time she was twenty-four.
As her passion has always been writing and acting, she went to New York once she’d been admitted to the bar in Nova Scotia, thinking she could break into the theatre world. The dream was short-lived, and she returned to Nova Scotia and got a job as a newspaper reporter, then started practising law, but never stopped writing. Writing novels took a back seat for the fifteen years she sat on the bench, as she morphed into writing decisions, leaving little time for fiction.
She has worked as a columnist, and actress, and prior to writing the first two books of the Chester Murder Mystery series—Wednesday Night Whites, and Graves Island—she has had three traditionally published novels: two historical romance and one criminal suspense. She’s also published nine children’s books, having illustrated most of them.
Marci has written numerous plays for stage and screen, and overseen production of five of them in local theatres in Nova Scotia.
All proceeds from the sale of her books have been donated to various charities including the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation, Atlantic Chapter; Prostate Cancer Canada; Canadian Tire Jumpstart; the Two Rivers Wildlife Park in Cape Breton, Nova Scotia, and school breakfast programs.
She loves dogs, having once had the pleasure of sharing her space with ten cute little pups. She now has only three, is married, and has three children, and five grandchildren.
